We’re looking, not only at the instructions Jesus gave his disciples, newly designated apostles, but also the impact of that commissioning on us, too. Remember? Everything has to start somewhere. There is no question that these instructions and this commissioning, as well as the impartation of authority and ministry gifting here belongs only to the apostles. Because? Everything has to start somewhere. The Holy Spirit will get to us. If you doubt that, just take a look at I Corinthians 12, 13, and 14. If you doubt that, just take a look at Ephesians 4, or Romans 12 or I Peter 4. This investment of power and authority comes to us, but it isn’t what’s offered here. Here, because everything has to start somewhere, is where it begins with the apostles.
