So, what is it that happens when, after the On the Job Training, Jesus turns his disciples loose? He gives them authority to do all the stuff he’d been doing. He’d demonstrated his heart of compassion, so they would understand WHY he did what he did, and he sent them out in pairs, so that they would begin to learn the power of multiplication as well as a fresh perspective. We see that Judas received the SAME authority as the rest, the SAME power as the rest, he saw the SAME heart of compassion as the rest. Jesus never stopped investing in Judas. Why do we need to note that? Simply to be aware that anyone can fall and anyone can fail, at any time. Whenever vulnerability is exploited, all of us are susceptible. Another reason for sending the apostles out in pairs–Accountability. All of these are significant lessons for ministry and we need to understand not only what’s happening here but how what happened then affects us today.
